About Theresa House

History of Theresa House

Theresa House was formally a convent community of the School Sisters of Notre Dame. The School Sisters of Notre Dame maintained small communities during the 1980's and 1990's, but left the convent in 1996. The pastoral center was gradually converted into a parish center by the Church of St. Peter and Paul's over the last two decades.

The pastoral center began offering transitional housing for refugee families as early as 1975.  Before opening its doors as a shelter in August of 1996, it housed three refugee families, two from Vietnam and one from Cambodia.  In 1997, Theresa House expanded housing services to single women and families. This included male and female partners and single male parents.

In 2009, Theresa House merged with Partners for Affordable Housing (PAH), which also operates the Welcome Inn, a short-term emergency shelter, and other transitional housing programs. PAH is now the umbrella organization for the Theresa House.
